Projected Changes in the Pattern of Spatially Compounding Drought and Pluvial Events Over Eastern China Under a Warming Climate

The simultaneous occurrence of droughts and floods in neighboring regions amplifies the threats posed by individually. Nonetheless, few studies have been conducted to investigate drought flood events. Here we explore spatiotemporal characteristics shift pattern pluvials over Eastern China from a three-dimensional perspective, using self-calibrated Palmer Drought Severity Index Climate Research Unit data set as well four regional climate model simulations. We find that experienced simultaneously different locations during boreal summer, it is projected experience more frequent intense under warming climate. Specifically, Southeast Northeast for historical period 1975–2004. This dynamically evolves warming: pluvial-dominated regime shifts China, while drought-dominated China. weakening strength western Pacific subtropical high northward displacement monsoon rain belt may both contribute These findings provide insights into development adaptation strategies emergency response plans enhancing society's resilience spatial co-occurrence dry wet extremes.
